Safety

Due to the nature of Technology activities it is important to consider safety prior to the commencement of any activity. Teachers should be aware of the safety procedures that are essential for the Technology activities they choose.

Schools should ensure that teachers know basic first-aid procedures and that suitable first-aid kits are available.

Refer to the Schools of the Future Reference Guide - 4.4.5 Safety in the Curriculum and 4.4.6 Safety in the School. Publications from the Occupational Health and Safety Unit of the Department of Education are also useful references, including the Manual Handling INjury Prevention Kit (1992) and the Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines (1994). The Department of Education is currently reviewing student safety guidelines for Technology and proposes to publish a document. Refer to the Course Advice documents for additional detail.
